The SSMHA and GMHA are proud to deliver Minor Hockey programs for residents of the Southern Shore and the Goulds.
Registration will be online starting on [insert date], and can be accessed by clicking the register links beside each association at the bottom of this page. Payments will only be accepted via credit card this season when you are registering online via the Hockey Canada/Spordle portal. If you require payments via EMT, exceptions may be possible (speak to your treasurer).
If you require financial assistance, here is a list of organizations that provide grants to kids families facing financial barriers so they can participate in minor hockey and other sports.
Funding Opportunities
Both the SSMHA & GMHA are very happy to announce our partnership with the Ken Williams Kid in Sport Foundation. The target of the Ken Williams Kids in Sports Foundation is not to give a set donation to a specific number of recipients, but rather a monetary donation to sporting organizations to be distributed to families in most need as determined by the individual organization. The goal is to help as many as possible and ensure every child has the opportunity they so dearly deserve and desire to have. During the registration process, you may see optional $25 and $50 donation fees. If you are interested in helping to sponsor local kids in hockey this season, you can either select one of these options or reach out to the foundation directly if you wish to donate more. Any money collected by each association will go back into each of our communities to support any families needing an assist this season. A copy of the foundation's mission can be found in the League Info section of our website.
Here are some other organizations that provide grants to kids from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in minor hockey and experience the lifelong benefits of the sport.

Preseason
In addition to our Minor hockey programs, optional pre-season programming is being provided at the Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena starting Monday, September 9th. Additionally, immediately following the end of these camps the GMHA will also be running some preseason camps starting the week of September 16th. These will provide players with an opportunity to obtain extra ice time before tryouts and the start of the regular season. Stay tuned to our website and social media pages for more details shortly.
The Respect in Sport Parent Program is an effective and informative online training program for parents of active children and promotes key values in providing a positive, safe and respectful environment for all participants in sport. It is MANDATORY for one parent/guardian per family to complete the course. Parents who have completed the course in previous seasons, need not complete it again.

We have a revised Parent-Player Agreement and a newly created Disciplinary Process. Both documents have been uploaded to the League info section of our website. Similar to the Hockey Canada Automatic Minimum Suspension Guidelines, this new process will serve as an Automatic Minimum Suspension Guideline for association members, family members, and anyone else who is involved with SSMHA and/or GMHA activities as a volunteer or spectator. I encourage you to become familiar with these documents as you will have to acknowledge both when registering your player in hockey this season.
If you get into a heated argument in the stands or outside of the dressing room in our rink or any other rink, hurl insults at a volunteer, a visiting team, a referee, or anyone else, etc.…, you will feel the full weight of this disciplinary process.
You can review all of these documents at this link. You will also have to acknowledge these documents when registering your player(s) this season. There will be accountability and 0 tolerance for inappropriate behavior.
We always need individuals to help deliver our programs and share their talents and love of hockey.
To indicate your interest in being a coach or a volunteer this season please visit the Applications tab on our website. There you will find a a step-by-step process to get started on all of the certifications you need to be an activity leader/coach in minor hockey.

All volunteers are required to have a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check completed (valid for 3 seasons) as well as an HNL Screening Application (valid for 3 years). You will not be permitted to step on the ice, on the bench, or be involved in the dressing room as a volunteer without these documents being on file with your association, and uploaded to your Spordle HCR (Hockey Canada Registry) profile by Hockey NL.
There are also new Hockey NL coaching and volunteer requirements for the 2024-2025 season. You can get up to speed on what is required for your player's team by following this link - Hockey NL Coach and Volunteer Requirements
If you have any questions please reach out to a member of your executive. We will be happy to help you out - List of SSMHA & GMHA Executives and Contact Info
As mentioned, forms are provided under the Applications tab. The application is free of charge provided you have a volunteer signed from your association confirming you volunteer there.
We are very excited to start this hockey season and hope to see you at the rink!
NOTE: Please sign up to be a Coach in the same association your kid(s) are registered in. If you do not have a kid in minor hockey, please register under your preferred association.
NOTE: If you intend to coach multiple teams you need to select them all when registering. The system will not let you go back and register to coach for a second team.
